Romy Schneider

Romy Schneider (23 September 1938 – 29 May 1982) was an Austrian-born German film actress who also held French citizenship. Romy's breakthrough came with her portrayal of Elisabeth, Empress Consort of Austria, in the romantic biopic Sissi (1955) and its two sequels. A lot of movies later she even tried her luck in Hollywood in 'Good Neighbor Sam' (1964) and What's new pussycat (1965). In 1966 Romy married Harry Meyen and gave birth to a son, David Christopher. In 1970 Romy starred in 'Les choses de la vie', which made her a household name in France. In 1976 she received Cesar as Best Actress for "L'important c'est d'aimer' and in 1979 she got the same award for "L'histoire simple'. The sudden death of her son, who was impaled on a fence, was a hard blow to her and she never managed to recover from this loss. Romy Schneider died on May 29, 1982. Some sources said it was a heart attack, some considered it a suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills.
