Madeleine's rise to stardom becan when she played Cora in the exhilarating The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and gave a startling performance as a wife who willingly hangs on to her cheating husband in Robert Altman's dark mosaic Short Cuts (1993). Some other hits: she played a blind woman who "sees" a murder in Blink, a Wild West prostitute in Bad Girls and starred opposite Ed Harris in China Moon (actually completed in 1992).
